Copyright and fair use of materials in an educational environment

I never had experience with copyright or fair use as a teacher for education purposes; however, I've experienced fair use as a student, such as listening to music, watching movies for education purposes, reading books, etc. In general, I believe important guidelines of copyright and fair use for teachers are allowed to make one copy of larger copyrighted works as long as it is only for educational purposes. Short tales, poetry, charts, or diagrams from a magazine, for instance, may be duplicated for fair use educational reasons. An example of copyright and fair use is that my English teachers provide books, poems, and articles to base our study on (for educational purposes). As a teacher in the future, I will make my students aware of the laws of copyright and fair use.

 Academic Honesty and the Consequences of Plagiarism at BYU-Hawaii

Based on the reading I did about plagiarism at BYU-Hawaii, I learned about academic honesty and the consequences of plagiarism. It is the first honor code at BYU-Hawaii that everyone must 'be honest'. It's the pathway to achieving one's goal and individual improvement physically, mentally, and spiritually. Plagiarism is a form of intellectual theft that violates honest integrity, and there are serious consequences after violating this rule, such as being suspended from school, having your academic status affected, or, sadly, losing the opportunity to be in school.

    I'm glad that your comments you keep real and within the realms of your own experiences, as a student, instead of as a teacher. The things you learned about fair use in the setting as a student, will be very applicable as a teacher. Honesty is key in approaching plagiarism as well.     Thank you Mele for connecting the post back to your own experiences with fair use. I think it is important that we stay educated about copy rights and fair use. I did not know much about it until I took this class and learned about the policies and guidelines when using others work. I found it very interesting to learn about plagiarism here at byu h and the consequences there in of participating in dishonest behavior. Thanks for sharing.

  1) Khan's vision of personalized learning I agree with Khan's vision of personalized learning because it contributes to a strong foundation for students learning. There may be disadvantages to this strategy, but I think it will be helpful for kids learning to do independent study at their own pace in and outside the classroom.
