Benefits of active learning. Active learning is what really matters for students. A teacher with effective teaching strategies allows students to actively participate and engage in learning; in other words, students who actively learn are the ones who understand and make sense of what they learn. There are great benefits to active learning, such as deep learning; it helps students to reflect, write, think, and be better at problem solving and more creative. Not only do they gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective learner, but they also gain a greater learning experience that would help them overcome any challenges with education in the near future. The importance of formative assessments within a lesson. Formative assessment is an effective way of assessing what students have learned through the teacher's ongoing feedback to them that helps them learn from their mistakes. More specifically, formative assessment helps students know what they need to improve. For...

Assistive and Adaptive Technology. Technology is an important tool that has benefited others' lives in many ways. A great example of the usefulness of technology is when a pandemic hits. During those uncertain times, everything was made possible for people to communicate through technology without even having to meet in person. These days, technology has increased in use for many reasons, such as school, work, life, etc. Types of these technologies are assistive and adaptive technologies, which refer to ways of using technology to help students or people with disabilities learn and understand things. An example inside the classroom that I've seen was a little boy with a hearing problem, but with the assistance of a cochlear implant tool, it was possible for the little boy to hear and learn things in class with the assistance of the teacher and the little hearing device. Another use of technology to assist visual learning in class is pictures, diagrams, concept maps, videos, e...

Pandemic and Online Learning.  During the pandemic, most schools were shut down, and the same goes for all workplaces. However, school and work still continued with the blessing of technology up until these days. If it weren't for the technology, everything would be so hard and difficult for the people, for example, communicating with families, friends, and loved ones. But technology has helped with communication through the internet, people's work, students' learning online, etc. Online learning has provided a great opportunity for teachers to teach and students to learn remotely through technology. It has benefited students to not only learn academically but also get familiar with important online learning features and know more about how to navigate through technology. An example of software that has helped with online learning is Zoom, where teachers and students meet on Zoom like in a real-life class meeting instead of meeting in person. Another program is Canvas or Go...

  1) Khan's vision of personalized learning I agree with Khan's vision of personalized learning because it contributes to a strong foundation for students learning. There may be disadvantages to this strategy, but I think it will be helpful for kids learning to do independent study at their own pace in and outside the classroom. For example, Khan offers instructional videos and exercises for students to empower their learning in whichever area they may try to tackle—math, science, etc. With Khan's vision, it provides a focus on skills that will make learners adapt to it and apply it to their learning. 2) Google Classroom I liked about every feature in Google Classroom, such as the ability to create announcements, assignments, quizzes, etc. The most important is that teacher can monitor students work, keep track of their progress, and be able to provide help when students need it. Another feature is schedule post in advance and can be reuse post to multiple classes which is...

Reliability and Relevance The two most important criteria for evaluating websites for me are reliability and relevance, as these are the two areas where there are the most problems with online sources these days, particularly when used for educational purposes, and some of the information on the internet is inaccurate. For reliability, it is very helpful for students to dig deeper to determine if the information is accurate and if the source is trustworthy or not. More importantly, do research on the origin of the information to make sure it comes from the right source and has the right author. The other important criterion is relevance. This is applicable for school purposes; when doing project research on a specific topic, students must consider whether they need the information they found on the internet for their topic or not. How relevant is the information for their research, and does it really help contribute to their school project or not? An example: some points from the ...

Copyright and fair use of materials in an educational environment I never had experience with copyright or fair use as a teacher for education purposes; however, I've experienced fair use as a student, such as listening to music, watching movies for education purposes, reading books, etc. In general, I believe important guidelines of copyright and fair use for teachers are allowed to make one copy of larger copyrighted works as long as it is only for educational purposes. Short tales, poetry, charts, or diagrams from a magazine, for instance, may be duplicated for fair use educational reasons. An example of copyright and fair use is that my English teachers provide books, poems, and articles to base our study on (for educational purposes). As a teacher in the future, I will make my students aware of the laws of copyright and fair use.   Academic Honesty and the Consequences of Plagiarism at BYU-Hawaii Based on the reading I did about plagiarism at BYU-Hawaii, I learned about aca...
